IPL 2025: [WATCH] Digvesh Rathi Reignites Controversy With Notebook Celebration

Lucknow Super Giants spinner Digvesh Rathi found himself in the spotlight once again during the IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians. The young spinner, who was previously fined 25% of his match fee by the BCCI for a controversial celebration, repeated the same gesture on Friday.

In a previous match against Punjab Kings, Rathi had mimed “writing in a notebook” after dismissing Priyansh Arya—an action seen by many as provocative. Despite the disciplinary action taken, Rathi showed no hesitation in pulling off the identical celebration after bowling out MI’s Naman Dhir, who was looking dangerous with a fiery 46 off 24 balls.

LSG Batters Shine in High-Scoring Contest

The Lucknow Super Giants put on an impressive batting display, led by explosive performances from Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and David Miller. Marsh continued his rich form in IPL 2025, blasting 60 runs off 31 deliveries—his third half-century of the tournament. Following his dismissal, Markram stepped up to anchor the innings with a well-paced 53 off 38 balls.

Toward the end, Miller unleashed a flurry of boundaries during his quick-fire 27 from just 14 balls. Their collective efforts pushed LSG to a challenging total of 203/8 in their 20 overs at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.

Hardik Pandya’s Historic Five-Wicket Haul

Despite the onslaught from LSG’s top and middle order, Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya delivered a bowling masterclass. The all-rounder exploited the conditions effectively, relying on clever variations, particularly slower deliveries, to claim a five-wicket haul. His 5-36 marked not only his personal best in T20 cricket but also made him the first IPL captain to record a five-for in the league’s history. Pandya’s efforts helped restrict LSG during the death overs, preventing an even bigger total.

Though the match witnessed several noteworthy performances, it was Digvesh Rathi’s repeated celebration that once again stirred conversation on sportsmanship and conduct in cricket. Whether it was a message or simply a personal style, Rathi’s actions are sure to remain a talking point throughout the tournament.
