MS Dhoni Breaks Silence On Retirement Talk After CSK vs DC Clash In IPL 2025

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran MS Dhoni has responded to ongoing retirement rumors. Speculation about his future spiked during CSK’s IPL 2025 match against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 5, especially with his parents, wife, and daughter seen in the stands at Chepauk — leading fans to wonder if it was his final IPL appearance.

The 43-year-old struggled with the bat, managing an unconvincing 30* off 26 balls as CSK fell short by 25 runs. However, no announcement followed the match, and Dhoni later dismissed the rumors during a podcast with Raj Shamani. Speaking in a video shared on the ‘DHONI’ YouTube channel (as quoted by India Today), he addressed the speculation directly:

“No, not right now. I am still playing the IPL. I have kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time, I am 43, by the time IPL 2025 finishes, I will be 44, so after that I have 10 months to decide if I would play or not. But it is not me deciding, it is my body that decides. So, one year at a time, we will see after that.”

It’s worth mentioning that Dhoni made these comments prior to the CSK vs DC match, but the podcast was released only after the game.

Meanwhile, CSK and Dhoni will aim to end their three-match losing run in their upcoming clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday, April 8.

“I’m simply enjoying continuing to work with him”- Stephen Fleming

CSK head coach Stephen Fleming admitted he’s unaware of MS Dhoni’s retirement plans when asked about it following the match against DC. Currently in his 19th straight IPL season, Dhoni hasn’t quite found his rhythm with the bat, maintaining a strike rate of just 138.18 while mostly batting in the death overs.

Addressing the question during the post-match press conference, Fleming stated:

“I have no idea. I’m just enjoying working with him still. He is still going strong. I don’t even ask [about his future] these days.”
