Jasprit Bumrah is ready to make a comeback for the Mumbai Indians in their upcoming IPL 2025 match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed in the pre-match press conference that the star pacer will be available after being out of action for several months.
Bumrah suffered a back injury during the Sydney Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy held in January this year. Since then, he has been recovering and training. According to Jayawardene, Bumrah has looked good during practice sessions and is excited to be back on the field. He said Bumrah is training today and should be fit to play the next match.
Rohit Sharma Likely To Return As Well
Rohit Sharma, who missed the last match due to a knee injury during practice, is also expected to return. Jayawardene mentioned that Rohit looks fine and will be batting in practice today.
Since the team was traveling the previous day, a final assessment will be made after today’s session. If he passes the fitness test, Rohit will likely return to the playing eleven. His return will be a big boost for Mumbai Indians, who have struggled in the first few games of the season.
Mumbai Indians Hoping for a Turnaround
Mumbai Indians have had a difficult start to IPL 2025, managing to win only one out of their first four matches. In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, the team had to rely on new players like Satyanarayana Raju, Vignesh Puthur, and Ashwani Kumar. Senior bowlers like Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and captain Hardik Pandya have led the bowling attack so far.
Bumrah, who has played his entire IPL career with Mumbai Indians since 2013, has taken 165 wickets in 133 matches. Except for the 2023 season, which he missed due to a similar back issue, he has been a consistent performer for the franchise.
His most recent injury on January 4 forced him out of important tournaments, but this will be his first competitive match since then. With both Bumrah and Rohit likely to return, Mumbai Indians hope to improve their position in the tournament and gain momentum going forward.
