The Chennai Super Kings got off to a winning start in the 5th match of the Indian Premier League 2025, following their previous five losses. It was a thrilling match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where CSK defeated Lucknow Super Giants in Match 30 by 5 wickets, thanks to star performances by several Super Kings players.
This has revived CSK’s lost purpose, and now the onus is on them to carry the same momentum in the coming games. LSG, meanwhile, will have to regroup and come back stronger in their next outing.
The Purple Cap Holder Shines: Noor Ahmad
Noor Ahmad had a fabulous game for CSK against LSG. The holder of the Purple Cap showcased his skills and bowled a match-winning performance, giving away only 13 runs in 4 overs at an economy rate of 3.25. His exceptional bowling came in quite handy in stalling LSG’s innings and providing CSK desperately needed breakthroughs. His 13 dot balls were a testament to Noor Ahmad’s skill and control.
MS Dhoni: The Masterclass
Dhoni’s presence made a difference for CSK in every way, from captaincy to batting. He made some strong decisions, most notably leaving R. Ashwin out of the XI for this match and opting for the review that changed the course of the contest. Dhoni went on a rampage, scoring 26* off 11 balls amid 4 fours and a six, and his contributions were vital for CSK, sealing it in at 43—he still has it.
Rishabh Pant: A Labored Effort
For LSG, Rishabh Pant’s effort was a bit mixed, scoring a decent 63 off 49 balls. His innings, however, was mostly labored and particularly challenging against the left-arm spinners of CSK, Noor Ahmad and Ravindra Jadeja. Pant’s not giving Ravi Bishnoi his 4th over became costly, and LSG paid for it. Pant couldn’t take his team over the line either, and eventually, CSK took home the match.
