Former Pakistani cricketer and seasoned commentator Ramiz Raja found out during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. Hosting the post-match presentation after Match 12 between Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars, Raja accidentally called the PSL the IPL (Indian Premier League) — a mistake that quickly lit social media on fire.
PSL 2025 and Its High Stakes
This season of PSL isn’t like the previous ones. It’s the first time the tournament directly overlaps with the IPL, placing immense pressure on organizers, players, and broadcasters alike to maintain attention and loyalty from local fans. To stay relevant, the PSL even delayed matches to begin an hour after IPL games.
Multan Sultans vs Lahore Qalandars
Multan Sultans put on an absolute clinic with the bat. Yasir Khan, the undisputed star of the night, smashed a stunning 87 runs off 44 balls, laced with six boundaries and six maximums. His aggressive approach helped Multan post a colossal 228/5 in 20 overs.
In response, Lahore Qalandars could only muster 195/9, despite a valiant unbeaten half-century from Sikandar Raza (50* off 27). Shaheen Afridi, their captain, had a rough day at the office, leaking 43 runs in his 4 overs while picking up a solitary wicket.
The Viral Moment: Ramiz Raja’s On-Air Slip
Right after the match, as Ramiz Raja was wrapping up the post-match presentation, he invited Joshua Little, the man who took a screamer to dismiss Fakhar Zaman, to collect his award.
While praising Little’s catch, Raja said, “And here’s your award for the Catch of the IPL…”. Before quickly correcting himself to say, “…I mean PSL.”

Not so forgiving. Within minutes, clips of the moment were trending with hashtags like #RamizSlip and #IPLinPSL. Pakistani fans were split — some saw it as an innocent goof, others took it as an insult to the PSL.
Why This Slip-Up Stirred Emotions
It’s no secret that the PSL and IPL are seen as rivals. Though IPL commands a much larger global audience, PSL prides itself on raw talent and intensity. For many fans, especially in Pakistan, mentioning the IPL during a PSL broadcast feels like sacrilege. Social media exploded with calls for an apology. Some fans claimed Raja should be more respectful, especially given his stature in Pakistan cricket. Others defended him, saying mistakes happen.
It’s debatable. He didn’t mean harm, clearly. But when you’re the voice of the league, words matter. An acknowledgment or light-hearted apology might just help ease the tension.
This PSL season has had its share of oddball moments. From Karachi Kings gifting a hair dryer to James Vince to Shaheen Afridi receiving a 24-carat gold-plated iPhone 16 Pro, the tournament has been full of flair — both on and off the pitch.
