Mumbai Indians’ star batter Suryakumar Yadav proudly secured the Orange Cap after a brilliant 54-run knock off 28 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium during their IPL 2025 clash. His innings, featuring four boundaries and four sixes, helped MI post an impressive total of 215/7.
Yadav revealed during the mid-innings interview that he was actually glad when Hardik Pandya lost the toss and MI were asked to bat first, citing the extreme heat as a factor. He praised the team’s batting effort, saying that posting over 200 runs after being put into bat was a great achievement. Alongside Yadav, opener Ryan Rickelton also played a crucial role with a 58-run contribution.
Milestones and Mindset: Yadav Crosses 4000 IPL Runs
During his fiery innings, Suryakumar Yadav also crossed the milestone of 4000 IPL runs, becoming the third-fastest to achieve this landmark after legends Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers. When asked about his accomplishment, Yadav kept things simple and focused, stating he prefers to enjoy the moment and continue doing well without overthinking. His consistent performances have been a major highlight this season.
In 10 matches so far, he has scored 427 runs at an excellent strike-rate of 169.44, never posting a score below 25—showcasing his exceptional reliability. Yadav mentioned that wearing the Orange Cap felt special, as it had been a long time since he last held it. He credited his routines and processes for his current purple patch.
Confident about MI’s Total, Wary of LSG’s Batting Firepower
Reflecting on the team’s total of 215, Yadav expressed satisfaction but acknowledged that the Wankhede surface was slightly on the slower side. He expected a challenging chase from LSG, given their strong batting lineup. “I feel it’s a good score. The wicket is a bit slow, but it will still be a test against their aggressive batters,” he remarked. For LSG, Mayank Yadav and Avesh Khan picked up two wickets each.
Looking ahead, Suryakumar maintained a balanced outlook, excited about the contest but aware of the challenge awaiting his team in the second innings. His candid attitude, combined with stellar performances, continues to define his standout season in IPL 2025.
