Ravichandran Ashwin Conferred Padma Shri By President Droupadi Murmu

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri award on Monday, April 28. The experienced cricketer received India’s fourth-highest civilian honor from President Droupadi Murmu. Ashwin had announced his retirement from international cricket on December 18, 2024, shortly after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia.

The 38-year-old ended his illustrious career with 765 wickets across 379 innings, making him India’s second-highest wicket-taker in international cricket history. Ashwin also showcased his batting skills on numerous occasions, registering six Test centuries during his career.

The versatile spinner was a key member of India’s victorious squads in the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Watch the video of Ashwin receiving the Padma Shri award from the President of India here:

Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed five wickets so far in CSK’s IPL 2025 campaign

Ravichandran Ashwin was acquired by CSK for ₹9.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction, marking his return to the franchise, which was a major talking point before the season began.
Despite the excitement surrounding his homecoming, the off-spinner has yet to make a notable impact with the ball for the five-time champions.

He has taken five wickets in seven matches at an economy rate of 9.29. Ashwin was also omitted from the playing XI for CSK’s games against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Overall, he has claimed 185 wickets in 215 innings, ranking fifth on the all-time list in IPL history.

Currently, CSK find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, with only two wins from nine matches and a net run rate of -1.302. They will face Punjab Kings (PBKS) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Wednesday, April 30.
