[WATCH] Shubman Gill-Led India Gears Up At Lord’s As Countdown Begins For England Test Series 2025

Shubman Gill-led Team India kicked off their preparations for the upcoming Test series against England with a training session at Lord’s on Saturday, June 7. The five-match series is set to begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. The BCCI shared a video on X, featuring players doing stretching routines and playing football indoors.

Later, the squad moved to the training ground for running and fielding drills. The video was posted with the caption:

“Prep Begins. First sight of #TeamIndia getting into the groove in England.”

The England-India series will mark the start of both teams’ journeys in the 2025–27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. For India, it also represents a new chapter in Test cricket following the recent retirements of senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Rohit retired on May 7, followed by Kohli five days later. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new captain, with Rishabh Pant serving as his deputy. The series will also witness a significant return, as Karun Nair rejoins the Test squad after eight years.

Aussie World Cup Winner Endorses Shubman Gill As India’s New Test Captain

Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has backed India’s choice of appointing Shubman Gill as their new Test skipper. In a conversation with the ICC Review, the 50-year-old expressed his views on the decision, stating:

“I actually think it’s the right move. I know there’s a lot of other people out there, pundits out there saying they can’t understand why it wasn’t Bumrah and why they have gone to Shubman, but I think it’s pretty simple.”

“Bumrah’s injuries are holding him back a bit in the last couple of years and you don’t want that with a captain. You can’t have a captain coming in and missing games here and there, so I think it’s I think it’s the right decision.”
