South Africa captain Temba Bavuma showed intent and positivity as he stepped out to bat on Day 2 of the WTC 2025 final against Australia on Thursday, June 12. The right-hander looked composed and confident, beginning the day in fine fashion by striking a couple of boundaries off left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc.

Bavuma then registered the first six of the grand finale, launching a powerful shot off his Australian counterpart Pat Cummins in the 35th over. The delivery was back-of-a-length outside off, and Bavuma judged it early, swiveling and timing it perfectly over square leg into the crowd. You can watch the video here:

South Africa Steady Early on Day 2 as Bavuma, Bedingham Build Partnership

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and middle-order batter David Bedingham began Day 2 of the WTC 2025 final against Australia with a positive approach. Resuming at 43/4 in their first innings, South Africa moved to 92/4 at the time of reporting, with Bavuma unbeaten on 36 from 80 balls and Bedingham on 22 off 50 deliveries.

For Australia, Mitchell Starc was the standout performer on Day 1, dismissing both openers—Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton—early in the innings. Batting first, Australia posted a total of 212 runs. Steve Smith anchored the innings with a composed 66 off 112 balls, which included 10 boundaries.

Meanwhile, Beau Webster, featuring in only his fourth Test, top-scored with a fluent 72 off 92 balls, hitting 11 fours. Earlier, Australia’s batting lineup had stumbled to 67/4 before Webster and Smith stitched together a crucial 79-run stand for the fifth wicket.

South Africa’s bowling was led by pace spearhead Kagiso Rabada, who claimed 5 wickets for 51 runs. All-rounder Marco Jansen supported well with three wickets, while Keshav Maharaj and Aiden Markram chipped in with one wicket each to complete the bowling effort.
