
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has received a special honor, with a school in the country renaming a ground after him. St David’s Marist Inanda has changed the name of its McGregor Oval to the Temba Bavuma Oval. The school officially announced the renaming through a statement on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
“St David’s Marist Inanda is proud to announce that the official renaming of the school’s renowned McGregor Oval to the Temba Bavuma Oval took place this morning on Tuesday, 1 April,” the statement read.

Located in Johannesburg, the school was attended by Bavuma from 2005 to 2008. The cricketer expressed his appreciation for the honor by sharing a message on his official X handle.
“It’s an incredible honour to have the main cricket oval renamed the Temba Bavuma Oval, a place that shaped so much of my journey. To St David’s Marist Inanda , thank you for this special recognition and for playing a vital role in my growth, both on and off the field,” he wrote on X.

Temba Bavuma gears up to captain South Africa in the upcoming WTC final
Temba Bavuma made his international debut in 2014 and has since represented South Africa in 63 Tests, 48 ODIs, and 36 T20Is. The 34-year-old has accumulated 3,606 runs in Tests, including four centuries and 24 half-centuries.
In white-ball cricket, Bavuma has scored 1,847 runs in ODIs, registering five centuries and seven fifties, while in T20Is, he has 670 runs with a lone half-century. His most recent appearance for South Africa was in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where the Proteas reached the semifinals but were eliminated by New Zealand.
Bavuma is now set to captain South Africa in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final, scheduled for June. The Proteas will take on Australia at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Currently, he leads the South African Test and ODI teams.
