Team India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill gave a witty response when asked about Bazball during a press conference ahead of the opening Test against England at Headingley, Leeds, starting Friday, June 20. The term ‘Bazball’ refers to England’s aggressive brand of Test cricket under the leadership of Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum.
Shubman Gill took charge of the Test team after Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and R. Ashwin retired from red-ball cricket, leaving India with a young squad for the England series. When asked about adopting Bazball, Gill smiled and replied:
“I think you’re going to have to wait till August to see what kind of style is that going to be.”

However, the 25-year-old acknowledged that England have been playing a thrilling and results-driven style of Test cricket in recent years. He further stated:
“They have been playing very exciting brand of cricket. They’ve been wanting to get results – that’s what the approach has been from what we know when we played against them. As a team, whenever you are playing you want to be able to get results. It wouldn’t be any different from us as well. We also play to get results.”

“No Baggage Coming To England” – Shubman Gill Highlights Advantage Of Young Team
Several critics have predicted a dominant series win for England in the five-match Test contest against India, pointing to the visitors’ lack of experience as a key disadvantage. However, Indian captain Shubman Gill chose to focus on the positives and stated:
“I don’t think we would be looking at that to be honest. We are all very motivated. Lot of people talk that our side is not very experienced, but there are also positives – we don’t have any baggage coming to England. That could be one thing that really makes a difference for us.”
