India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was seen reprimanding himself after an unsuccessful scoop shot attempt off pacer Brydon Carse during Day 4 of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series opener against England at Headingley, Leeds. The moment occurred following the 32nd over of India’s second innings.
On the final delivery of the over, Pant attempted a ramp shot from around the wicket but lost his balance and fell while missing the shot. The ball struck his pads as he failed to make proper contact. Displeased with his shot selection, the left-hander was heard speaking to himself shortly after.
Captured by the stump mic, Pant reflected on his decision-making, remarking that trying to take on every delivery with the wind might not be a wise approach.
“Straight ball hai Rishabh! Aise ye zaroori nahi hai. Theeke? Marna hai to seedha lag jayega na iss ball pe. Zabardasti with the wind try kare jaara hai.” (It was a straight ball Rishabh! This was not required. Okay? If you want to hit then you could have gone straight. You are tyrying to hit with the wind forcefully.)

Rishabh Pant has been in outstanding form with the bat during the Test match. He scored his seventh century in India’s first innings, becoming the Indian wicketkeeper with the most Test hundreds. The 27-year-old ended the innings with an impressive 134 off 178 deliveries. He followed it up with another century in the second innings, recording twin tons in the match.
Pant creates history with twin Test hundreds
Rishabh Pant etched his name in the record books by scoring a century in India’s second innings at Headingley, becoming the first Indian wicketkeeper to register twin centuries in a Test match. He is only the second wicketkeeper in international cricket history to achieve this rare feat.
The first to do so was former Zimbabwe captain Andy Flower. Pant brought up his eighth Test hundred with a single off off-spinner Shoaib Bashir in the 70th over.
