Prithvi Shaw To Play For Maharashtra Team In Domestic Cricket: Reports

Prithvi Shaw, the talented but sidelined Indian cricketer, has taken a bold step in his domestic career by requesting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

The 25-year-old batter, who debuted for Mumbai in 2017, was dropped from the Ranji Trophy side for the 2024–25 season. With national team opportunities drying up, Shaw sought the NOC to explore playing for another domestic team.

The MCA accepted his request and officially stated, “The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) would like to inform that cricketer Prithvi Shaw had formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to represent another state as a professional player in the upcoming domestic season. After due consideration, the MCA has granted the NOC.” The association also extended their best wishes for his future.

Maharashtra: Shaw’s Probable New Home

According to a report, Shaw has already received offers from two to three states to join their domestic squads. Among these, Maharashtra is expected to be his next team. If this move goes through, Shaw will play under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, a well-known batter who also captains the IPL team Chennai Super Kings.

Gaikwad is a strong name in domestic cricket and, given the uncertainty of his position in the Indian national squad, is expected to be available for most matches. The move could offer  Prithvi Shaw a fresh start and more consistent game time, which might help him regain form and potentially revive his international career.

Shaw Expresses Gratitude and Bids Farewell to Mumbai

While applying for the NOC, Shaw penned a heartfelt note expressing his appreciation to the MCA. In his letter, he wrote, “I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) for the valuable opportunities and unwavering support extended to me during my time representing the association.”

Reflecting on his journey since 2017, he added, “It has truly been an honor and a privilege to be part of the MCA setup, and I am deeply grateful for the exposure and experience I have gained here.” This message marks a respectful end to his long association with Mumbai cricket and highlights his desire to start afresh in another environment.
