Additionally, fans marked Dhoni’s 44th birthday by cutting 44 cakes in his honour. In another video, a special title card dedicated to the two-time World Cup-winning captain was shown on the big screen in a movie theatre.
MS Dhoni last featured on the field during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). He took over as the interim captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined with an elbow injury following five matches.
CSK had a disappointing season, finishing at the bottom of the points table for the first time in their history, with just four wins from 14 games. Dhoni contributed 196 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 135.17.

MS Dhoni remains the only captain in world cricket to have clinched all three major ICC titles in white-ball formats. Under his leadership, India lifted the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. He announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020.
Throughout his illustrious career, Dhoni amassed 17,226 runs and holds the record for the most stumpings in international cricket with 195. Just last month, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
