IPL 2026: KL Rahul Emerges As Potential Trade Target For KKR

As per the latest update, the Kolkata Knight Riders are reportedly aiming to sign star Indian cricketer KL Rahul ahead of the 2026 IPL season. This potential move follows the franchise’s decision to part ways with coaching staff members Bharat Arun and Chandrakant Pandit. It remains unclear whether Rahul would join as a captain or purely as a batting option.

If the deal materializes, this would mark Rahul’s sixth IPL franchise, having begun his career with Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Karnataka batter enjoyed his most successful IPL stints with Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Bengaluru). Rahul endured a disappointing campaign in IPL 2024, as his team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) missed the playoffs for the first time.

Many fans and analysts blamed his poor strike rate and slow batting in crunch moments for the team’s underperformance. Following the season, LSG released him, and he was picked up by Delhi Capitals as a specialist batter. The switch proved highly successful for both Delhi Capitals and KL Rahul, with the batter emerging as the team’s top run-scorer in the tournament.

Despite joining the Playing XI later in the season, the Mangalore-born cricketer amassed 539 runs in 13 matches, boasting an impressive average of 53.90 and a striking strike rate of 150. His remarkable form didn’t stop there, as Rahul carried this momentum into the Test arena as well.

KL Rahul Shines Bright In England Tour

KL Rahul is currently India’s second-highest run-scorer in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Featuring as an opener in all four Tests against England so far, the stylish batter has notched up two brilliant centuries along with two solid half-centuries.

In eight innings, he has accumulated 511 runs at an impressive average of 63.87. With the fifth and final Test of the series now underway at the Kennington Oval in London, Rahul will be eager to finish the tour of the UK on a strong note.
