[WATCH]- Akash Deep Celebrates With Gusto After Scoring Maiden Fifty vs England

Indian fast bowler Akash Deep registered his maiden Test half-century during the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval on Saturday, August 2. His resilient knock played a key role in helping India dominate the opening session of Day 3 and build on their lead.

Resuming at 75/2, India had Yashasvi Jaiswal (51*) and Akash Deep (4*) at the crease. While Akash Deep is known for his aggressive style, he adopted a cautious approach against England’s pace attack. He reached his first Test fifty off 70 balls, striking three boundaries in the process.

His celebration was filled with emotion, raising his bat as the Indian dressing room rose in applause. After surviving a dropped catch by Zak Crawley in the slips, the 28-year-old showcased a solid defensive technique and capitalized on loose deliveries to find the boundary at intervals.

Akash Deep was dismissed by Jamie Overton for a well-made 66, the second-highest score by an Indian nightwatchman after Amit Mishra’s 84 in 2011. At lunch on Day 3, India were 189/3, with Jaiswal on 85* and Gill on 11*.

When Akash Deep replaced Jasprit Bumrah at Edgbaston, few expected him to shine. But he delivered a stunning performance, taking 4/88 and 6/99 to secure his maiden 10-wicket haul and help India record their biggest overseas win by 336 runs. He dedicated the feat to his sister battling cancer.

“My older sister is suffering from cancer for the last two months. Now she is stable. She will be very happiest after all that she has gone through mentally and I dedicate this match to her. I want to see a smile on her face.”

“This performance is for you. Whenever I picked the ball, only thoughts of my sister crossed my mind. I am with you. I want to see happiness on your face we are all together with you,” he added.
