The Hundred 2025: [WATCH] Sam Curran’s Slower Ball Outsmarts Richard Gleeson Completely

Sam Curran left Richard Gleeson completely stunned with a 75.64 kph (47 mph) slower delivery during the opening match of The Hundred Men’s 2025 between London Spirit and Oval Invincibles. Gleeson, who scored just 3 off 6 balls, was the last batter dismissed for the home side at Lord’s.

Sam Curran, bowling from over the wicket with his left arm, delivered a high-arcing slower ball that deceived Gleeson entirely. Attempting a wild swing, Gleeson missed the ball completely as it took its time to reach the stumps and crashed into the base of the off stump.

This marked Curran’s third wicket of the match, as he finished with impressive figures of 3 for 18 from 19 balls. You can watch the video here:

Interestingly, Richard Gleeson wasn’t the only Spirit batter to fall victim to the lack of pace. Earlier in the innings, Ashton Turner (21 off 14) also lost his wicket attempting to hit a similar dipping slower delivery for a six. However, his mistimed shot only managed to find Rashid Khan stationed at deep mid-wicket.

The Invincibles cruised to a comfortable six-wicket win with 31 balls remaining, after restricting the hosts to just 80 runs in 94 deliveries on a sluggish pitch. Rashid Khan was named Player of the Match for his excellent bowling figures of 3/11 in 20 balls and his outstanding fielding effort, which included three sharp catches.

Will Jacks, introduced as the seventh bowling option during the first innings, was the top scorer for the Invincibles with a steady 24 off 24 balls. Captain Sam Billings (6* off 3) and Donovan Ferreira (9* off 5) finished the chase with ease. The Invincibles will face Manchester Originals next at The Oval on Saturday, August 9.
