Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer recently took on his IPL teammate Shashank Singh in a Super Over challenge at his apartment. Tasked with facing six balls, the stylish right-hander jokingly asked Shashank if he was Chris Woakes, referring to their conversation about field placements.
The duo became teammates in the 2025 season, with PBKS retaining Shashank ahead of the mega auction. The franchise then spent ₹26.75 crore to secure Iyer’s services and named him captain for the year. Under his leadership, PBKS reached their first final since 2014.
In the Instagram video shared by PBKS, the fun began when Shashank asked:
“Yeh bhi out nahin hai?” (This is not out either?)
The 30-year-old India batter hilariously stated:
“Sirf appreciate kar, six hai yeh. (Juat appreciate, it’s a six.)
When Shashank stated by warning:
“Ab aayega short ball.” (The short ball is up next.)
Shreyas Iyer then playfully remarked:
“Woakes hai kya tu?” (Are you Woakes?)
Shashank said before bowling:
“Last 6 balls. Survive kar theek hai tu. Survive karega matlab accha player hai tu.” (It’s the last six balls. If you survive, you are a good player.)
After the first delivery, the Punjab Kings captain said to him:
“Field kya hai tera?” 7-3?” (What’s your field? 7-3?)
The right-hander replied:
“6-2″
With the PBKS skipper asking:
“Yeh leg-side ka toh bata field.” (Just tell me the leg-side field.)
Shashank further replied:
“Deep square leg, short mid-wicket, mid-on, Fine leg nahin hai.” (Deep square leg, short mid-wicket, mid-on, no fine leg.)

Shashank Singh Reflects On IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 Incident
After the tournament, Shashank Singh spoke about the PBKS captain’s outburst following Qualifier 2 regarding a run-out in that match. The 33-year-old acknowledged that he was at fault for running casually, which led to his dismissal at a crucial point in the game, and admitted that Iyer’s reaction was fair. Speaking to India Today, he said:
“I deserve it, Iyer should have slapped me, my father didn’t speak to me till the finals. I was casual, I was walking on the beach not even in the garden. It was a crucial time, Shreyas was clear that I didn’t expect this from you but later he took me out for dinner.”
