Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad shared a lighthearted moment with kids at the Super Kings Academy. Currently featuring in the 2025 Buchi Babu Tournament being played across different venues in Chennai, Gaikwad took time to interact with the youngsters.
During the fun exchange, he asked the kids if any of them supported teams other than CSK. A few raised their hands, prompting Gaikwad to jokingly remark that they might not be chosen for CSK in the future.
“Everyone will remember your name, and no one will pick you for CSK,” he said.

One of the kids also asked Gaikwad about his experience of leading a team full of senior players. In a witty response, he said that he really enjoyed it and even joked that he scolded all the seniors. Gaikwad’s IPL 2025 campaign, however, was cut short as he was sidelined after just a few matches due to injury.
Chennai Super Kings struggled in his absence, failing to reach the playoffs and finishing at the bottom of the table with only four wins. Before his injury, Gaikwad played five games, scoring 122 runs at an average of 24.40 and a strike rate of 150.61, which included two half-centuries.
Ruturaj Gaikwad’s Comeback Falls Short After Injury Layoff
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his comeback after the injury he suffered during IPL 2025, turning out for Maharashtra in the opening round of the ongoing 2025 Buchi Babu Tournament against Chhattisgarh. However, the right-hander struggled with the bat, managing only 1 run in the first innings.
In the second innings, he could not stage a recovery and was dismissed for 11. Chhattisgarh set a target of 185 in the final innings, which Maharashtra fell short of, losing the match by 36 runs. Although Gaikwad couldn’t make an impact on his comeback, he will be eager to find form and regain his rhythm in the upcoming matches.
The opener has also been out of the Indian squad for some time, with his last international appearance coming in a T20I against Zimbabwe in July 2024. Gaikwad has 633 runs in 23 T20Is at 39.56 with one century and four fifties, while in six ODIs he has scored 115 runs with one fifty.
