Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ruturaj Gaikwad surprised fans by rolling his arm over in the 2025 Buchi Babu Tournament clash against Chhattisgarh. The part-time off-spinner closed out Day 1 by removing Sourabh Majumdar. Gaikwad’s over began expensively, conceding seven runs from the first three deliveries, including a six off the third ball.
However, when Majumdar attempted another aggressive stroke, Gaikwad held on to a sharp return catch to claim the wicket. You can watch the video here:

Chhattisgarh’s innings came to an end at 252, with notable contributions from Avnish Singh Dhaliwal (52) and Sanjeet Desai (93), who both notched up half-centuries. Shubham Agarwal added a crucial 41 to the total. The side showed resilience, bouncing back strongly after slipping to 128/5 by the 49th over.
Ruturaj Gaikwad Returns To Action In First Match Since IPL 2025
Gaikwad is making his return to competitive cricket after being sidelined midway through IPL 2025 with an elbow injury, during which MS Dhoni took over the captaincy for the rest of the season. Before the injury, the 28-year-old had amassed 122 runs from five matches at an average of 24.40.
The Pune-born batter had also signed with Yorkshire County Cricket Club in July 2025 but withdrew due to personal reasons. With this setback behind him, Gaikwad will be eager to leave his mark in the 2025 Buchi Babu Tournament. Yorkshire coach Anthony McGrath described the development as disappointing, according to ESPNCricinfo.
“Unfortunately Gaikwad’s not coming now for personal reasons. We’re not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that’s disappointing. I can’t tell you anything about the reasons why, but we hope that everything’s ok. We’ve literally just found out.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad made his India debut in 2021 and has since played six ODIs and 23 T20Is.
