Former Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav has voiced a firm opinion on the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2025 fixture between India and Pakistan. According to him, the contest should not take place under the current circumstances. Speaking with conviction, Jadhav claimed that he is confident India will ultimately refuse to play the match.
He stressed that while India has historically dominated Pakistan on the cricket field, the bigger issue lies in whether such a contest should even be staged. For Jadhav, the question is not about cricketing ability or results but about the principle of whether playing the match is appropriate.
Respecting Sacrifices Beyond Cricket
Jadhav’s remarks echo sentiments previously expressed by other former players, including Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan had earlier argued that India playing Pakistan undermines the sacrifices of Indian soldiers who serve at the border. Jadhav reinforced this perspective, highlighting that cricket should not exist in isolation from the nation’s realities.
He suggested that when the country continues to face sensitive security issues, prioritizing a cricketing spectacle sends the wrong signal. Instead of treating the India–Pakistan rivalry merely as entertainment, he urged fans and administrators to recognize its larger implications.
National Pride Over Sporting Rivalry
The India–Pakistan cricket rivalry has historically been one of the most followed and emotionally charged contests in world sport. However, Jadhav believes that patriotism and respect for the nation’s defenders must outweigh sporting rivalries. While he acknowledged India’s track record and ability to defeat Pakistan in global tournaments, he insisted that avoiding the game altogether would be the right course of action.
According to him, not playing is a stronger statement than registering yet another win. It reflects solidarity with the soldiers who protect the country and demonstrates that cricket is not above national interests.
