The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is preparing for its Annual General Meeting (AGM) later this month, with sources indicating that a high-level strategy meeting of senior officials will be held in the coming days. This closed-door session is expected to deliberate, narrow down, and finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming elections.
The AGM, set for the final week of September in Mumbai, is likely to witness continuity in certain top roles. The secretary, joint secretary, and treasurer are expected to retain their positions, while the elections will specifically decide the new president and vice-president — posts that could significantly influence the board’s leadership dynamics.
At present, the president’s role remains undecided, with speculation pointing to contenders ranging from a former Indian cricketer to an experienced cricket administrator. Insiders suggest that no single candidate has been finalized yet, and the final decision will emerge only after the leadership’s internal discussions.
Rajeev Shukla Emerges As Key Contender In BCCI Leadership Race
Rajeev Shukla, the sitting vice-president, has become a central figure in the ongoing leadership talks. Sources suggest three possible outcomes for him: continuing as vice-president, moving up as BCCI president, or taking charge as IPL chairman. While the most likely scenario points to him retaining his current post, there is also said to be a “60-40 chance” of his promotion to the presidency.
The IPL chairmanship, however, may undergo a shake-up. Former BCCI treasurer Anirudh Choudhury is reportedly being considered for a comeback, while Bengal’s Avishek Dalmiya, a current member of the IPL Governing Council, is also seen as a strong contender.
An official notice for the AGM is expected within the next two to three days. Once the high-level meeting is held, it is likely to shape not just the outcome of the elections but also the broader power equation within the BCCI.
