Chennai Super Kings, the most successful franchise in IPL history, have made a strong statement by reinstating former BCCI president N Srinivasan as their chairman. Renowned for his sharp administrative acumen and decades of involvement in Indian cricket, Srinivasan’s comeback arrives at a pivotal time as CSK aims to recover from a challenging IPL 2025 campaign.
At 80, he will primarily take on an advisory role, remaining actively involved in the team’s day-to-day functioning while minimizing travel. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed his return, emphasizing the strategic value and confidence his presence brings to the franchise’s leadership setup.
“See, it’s a great boon for CSK and he’s been the best administrator for us and I’m very happy that he’s come back into CSK. He’ll be in an advisory role only because he doesn’t travel much, but we’ll be in contact with him,” Viswanathan told PTI.
“Both of us are in Chennai only. So he’s in day-to-day contact with us,” he added.
N Srinivasan Returns to Lead CSK’s Global Ventures with Power-Packed Board
Srinivasan’s comeback goes beyond formality, he will play an active role in steering CSK’s global ventures, including SA20 and Major League Cricket. As chairman of the CSKCL board, he joins hands with Gurunath, who serves as full-time director, and Kasi Viswanathan as managing director and CEO, supported by an experienced board comprising Sanjay Patel, R Srinivasan, Rakesh Singh, PL Subramanian, V Manickam, and E Jayashree.
This collective brings a strong blend of strategic expertise and operational depth. CSK endured their most difficult IPL season in 2025, finishing at the bottom of the points table with just four wins in 14 games, their worst-ever performance. Injuries to skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad early on forced MS Dhoni to take charge, but even his leadership couldn’t reverse the team’s struggles.
Now, with N Srinivasan back at the helm, the franchise is focused on a revival. His vision, combined with the board’s experience, is expected to guide CSK’s rebuilding phase as they aim to restore their long-standing reputation as one of the IPL’s most dominant sides.
