[WATCH]- Gautam Gambhir And Kuldeep Yadav Arrive In Ahmedabad Ahead Of West Indies Test

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir and ace spinner Kuldeep Yadav were spotted at Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday, just 48 hours before the opening Test of the two-match series against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The two are believed to have flown in directly from Dubai.

Kuldeep heads into the red-ball assignment on the back of a stellar Asia Cup campaign, where India defeated Pakistan in the title clash on September 28. Kuldeep finished as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 17 dismissals in seven matches, highlighted by best figures of 4/7 and an economy rate of 6.27, significantly surpassing Shaheen Afridi’s tally of 10 wickets.

Kuldeep Yadav Last Played Test In October 2024 Against New Zealand In Bengaluru

Kuldeep’s most recent Test appearance came in October 2024 against New Zealand in Bengaluru, where he claimed three wickets in the opening innings. However, India went on to suffer an eight-wicket defeat to the visitors.

He was unsurprisingly left out of India’s subsequent tours of Australia and England, but with Ravichandran Ashwin having retired, Kuldeep is expected to form part of the spin attack alongside Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel in the opening Test against the West Indies.

During the Asia Cup, Kuldeep Yadav extended his combined wicket tally across ODIs and T20Is to 36, surpassing the previous record of 33 held by former Sri Lankan fast bowler Lasith Malinga. In the final, Kuldeep Yadav, who finished the tournament with 17 wickets, produced a destructive spell that triggered Pakistan’s collapse, losing nine wickets for just 33 runs.

On the other hand, Tilak Varma showed remarkable composure despite India suffering an early top-order setback. Gambhir’s previous home Test assignment was the series against New Zealand, where India endured a 0-3 whitewash, a result that dented his reputation as coach.

Now, facing a struggling West Indies outfit, Gautam Gambhir has a valuable chance to refine and prove his Test coaching credentials.
