Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir closely watched as pace bowler Harshit Rana unleashed some powerful shots during a net session ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 group-stage clash against Oman. With India already through to the Super 4 stage, Rana could be in contention for a place in the playing XI if the team opts to rest a few senior players.
Rana has been aiming to establish himself as an all-rounder but has yet to make a significant impact at the top level. While he has occasionally shown flashes of his batting talent in domestic cricket, converting that promise into consistent performances could make him a valuable asset for India.
During Thursday’s session on September 18, Harshit Rana struck a series of clean shots off full deliveries, timing the ball well and appearing in good rhythm. He followed it with a neat glance down the leg side and then launched a powerful back-foot slog off a short-of-a-length ball.
He occasionally advanced down the pitch as well, finishing the session with a stunning no-look slog sweep. You can watch the video here:

He then enjoyed a strong campaign with the North Delhi Strikers in the 2025 Delhi Premier League, taking 12 wickets in nine matches to finish as the tournament’s eighth-highest wicket-taker.
