Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir delivered a humorous reaction after the toss in the second and final Test of the home series against West Indies. Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, October 10. This marked Gill’s first toss win as a Test captain.

Gambhir’s remark hinted that the team had almost assumed the losing streak at the toss would continue. In a video shared by the BCCI on social media, Gambhir joked that Jasprit Bumrah had already marked his run-up, expecting Gill to lose the toss once again.

Gautam Gambhir was heard saying:

“Jassi ne toh run-up bhi mark kar liya tha. (Jassi had even marked his run-up)”

It is notable that Shubman Gill began his Test captaincy earlier this year with a five-match series in England, where he ended up losing the toss in all five games. The pattern carried on in the opening Test of the ongoing series against the West Indies as well.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Impresses With The Bat On Day 1 Of IND vs WI 2nd Test

After opting to bat first, India got off to a strong start as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul stitched together a 58-run partnership. Rahul was dismissed after a 38-run knock off 54 balls, while Jaiswal went on to score a magnificent century. He brought up his seventh Test hundred and remained unbeaten on 173 from 253 deliveries.

Sai Sudharsan also made an important contribution, narrowly missing out on his maiden international century. He was dismissed after scoring a solid 87 off 165 balls. Skipper Shubman Gill stayed unbeaten on 20 from 68 deliveries as India ended Day 1 at 318/2. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican picked up both wickets for the West Indies.

With this match underway, India, led by Shubman Gill, hold a 1-0 lead in the two-Test series, having defeated the visitors by an innings and 140 runs in the first Test at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
