Smriti Mandhana Creates History in Women’s ODI World Cup 2025

Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana etched her name in history during the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 clash against Australia in Visakhapatnam, becoming the first-ever female cricketer to score 1,000 or more runs in Women’s ODIs within a single calendar year. This extraordinary achievement marked a new era in women’s cricket, reflecting Mandhana’s consistency, aggression, and technical brilliance across formats.

In the high-voltage contest, the 29-year-old left-hander showcased her trademark class, smashing a blistering 80 runs from just 66 deliveries, featuring nine boundaries and three towering sixes. Her knock not only powered India to a strong start but also solidified her status as one of the most dependable batters in modern-day cricket.

With this innings, Mandhana also crossed another milestone—completing 5,000 runs in Women’s ODIs, becoming only the second Indian after Mithali Raj to reach that landmark.

Fastest and Youngest to Cross 5,000 ODI Runs

Mandhana reached her 5,000-run mark in just 112 innings (5,569 balls), making her both the youngest and the fastest woman to achieve this record. In doing so, she broke Stafanie Taylor’s previous record of 129 innings and Suzie Bates’s tally of 6,182 balls. This milestone underscored Mandhana’s extraordinary rise and consistency at the international level over the past decade.

Her ability to adapt to varying pitch conditions and her calm yet aggressive batting approach have made her India’s go-to performer in pressure situations. What makes this feat even more special is that it came in a crucial match against a top-ranked opponent, highlighting her temperament and ability to perform when it matters most.

A Fiery Knock That Lit Up Visakhapatnam

Mandhana’s journey to the record-breaking 1,000-run mark unfolded in dramatic fashion. She achieved the milestone during the eighth over, taking on Australian spinner Sophie Molineux with fearless intent. In a single over, she smashed 16 runs with a combination of fours and a six, symbolizing her dominance and confidence at the crease.

Despite modest starts earlier in the tournament—scoring 8, 23, and 23—Mandhana’s innings against Australia reminded the world why she remains India’s most explosive top-order batter. With her fluent timing, graceful shot selection, and fearless approach, Smriti Mandhana not only powered India’s innings but also reaffirmed her position as a global icon of women’s cricket.
