West Indies pacer Jayden Seales has been fined 25% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for throwing the ball at Indian batter Yashasvi Jaiswal on Day 1 of the second Test at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The incident falls under a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.9.
Seales has also received one demerit point, bringing his total to two within the 24-month period, following a similar offense during the second Test against Bangladesh in Jamaica in 2024, when he made aggressive gestures toward the opposition after taking a wicket.
During the opening day of the ongoing Test, Jaiswal had been scoring freely on the off side against Seales in the early part of the second session. The right-arm pacer eventually managed to halt the batter’s momentum with a dot delivery, as Jaiswal defended a straight ball back to the bowler.
A frustrated Seales hurled the ball aggressively at Jaiswal, striking his pads. Although he quickly apologized before returning to his mark, the incident was considered a punishable offense by the match officials.
Seales Disputes Referee’s Ruling In IND vs WI 2nd Test
The ICC stated that Jayden Seales contested the charges brought against him by the match officials, necessitating a formal hearing to review the incident in detail. The West Indies bowler argued that his throw was intended to target the stumps to effect a run out, as Jaiswal had reportedly left the crease, insisting there was no malicious intent.
However, after carefully reviewing video replays from multiple angles, the match referee concluded that the delivery was “unnecessary” and “inappropriate,” upholding the original charges against Seales.
In the first innings, Seales went wicketless, finishing with figures of 0-88 from 22 overs, as India posted a massive 518/5 before declaring midway through Day 2, putting significant pressure on the visiting side.
