Exclusive Interview: Rohit Sharma Reveals Secrets Behind India’s Consecutive ICC Title Wins

Team India’s Rohit Sharma was playfully teased by journalist Vimal Kumar while making his way to a practice session in Perth ahead of the first ODI against Australia on Sunday, October 19. In a video shared by the journalist, the 38-year-old opener pointed at him and nearly blurted out a cuss word before walking off with a grin.

Rohit, along with Virat Kohli, is set to return to international cricket after a seven-month break, with their last appearance coming in the victorious Champions Trophy 2025 final. The dynamic opener will aim to start strong on what is expected to be a lively pitch in Perth. Having put in consistent effort to regain top fitness, Rohit will be confident of delivering a solid performance.

Watch the video below, where journalist Vimal Kumar can be heard saying:

“Big fan Rohit bhai. Big fan.”

Despite leading India to Champions Trophy glory earlier this year, the Nagpur-born star has been relieved of captaincy duties. Shubman Gill will step in as the new ODI captain, marking his first match in the role. At just 26, Gill faces a significant challenge, considering his predecessor boasts a remarkable win rate of 75%, the highest by any Indian captain with a minimum of 50 ODIs in charge.

Rohit Sharma Set To Join Elite List As Fifth Indian To Play 500 International Matches

The opening ODI at Optus Stadium in Perth will mark the veteran batter’s 500th international appearance. Only four other Indian players have reached this milestone — Sachin Tendulkar (664), Virat Kohli (550), MS Dhoni (538), and Rahul Dravid (509).

Rohit Sharma’s previous ODI outing in Australia was in 2019, when India secured their first-ever bilateral ODI series win on Australian soil. With Shubman Gill now at the helm, Team India will aim to replicate that achievement against Mitchell Marsh’s side. Following the ODI leg, the two teams are also scheduled to contest a five-match T20I series.
