Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar shared a moment when MS Dhoni lost his cool with him during his recent appearance on Bigg Boss. Chahar visited the Bigg Boss 19 house during family week, as his sister Malti Chahar is one of the contestants.

He recounted an episode from the 2019 IPL clash between CSK and Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Chennai. In that match, CSK posted 160/3 after batting first, leaving PBKS needing 39 runs from the final 12 balls. Chahar was given the 19th over but started poorly, delivering a no-ball on the first ball and giving away five runs.

He followed it with another no-ball to a well-set Sarfaraz Khan. Chahar recalled that this led to MS Dhoni getting visibly angry and scolding him for his errors.

“I was bowling in the death for the first time in that match. Sarfaraz Khan was batting. We had planned what to bowl to him. Sarfaraz plays the scoop shot. So if you bowl a slower ball to him, it is difficult to hit. So I bowled a leg-cutter outside the leg stump. My leg got stuck, and it was a full-toss.”

“The match was tense. It was a no-ball and went for a boundary as well. I thought the plan was right, but the execution was wrong. So I bowled the same ball again, and it was a no-ball again,” he said while talking to some of the contestants.

“I thought my death bowling career was done. Mahi bhai came and he told me things in anger. He said, ‘Tu bewakoof nahi, main bewakoof hoon’ (You are not stupid, I am stupid). I thought I will not get bowling again, and I just put my head down and was listening. But in the next five-six balls, I gave only five runs and took a wicket as well, and we won the game,” he added.

CSK fans rejoice as MS Dhoni decides to play in IPL 2026

CSK officially ended all rumours surrounding MS Dhoni’s future. Despite uncertainty over his participation in the 2026 season, the franchise chose to retain him ahead of the IPL 2026 auction. With Ruturaj Gaikwad injured and sidelined after just five matches last season, Dhoni even stepped in as captain for the remainder of the campaign.

That said, he continued to bat lower in the order and managed 196 runs in 13 innings, averaging 24.50 with a strike rate of 135.17. Now that CSK have brought in Sanju Samson, another wicketkeeper-batter, the exact role Dhoni will take up in the upcoming season remains unclear.
