Following a security breach in Ranchi during the first ODI against South Africa, where a fan tried to reach Virat Kohli, a similar incident took place in the second ODI in Raipur on Wednesday, December 3. A video posted on X showed the fan being escorted off the field by security staff.

The breach occurred during one of the drinks breaks, as the fan entered the ground intending to meet Kohli, who had just scored his second consecutive ODI century. In the first ODI at Ranchi, a fan had also broken through security and fell at the 37-year-old’s feet while he was celebrating his century.

Here’s the video showing the fan being removed from the field in Raipur:

A report by The Telegraph stated that the Jharkhand police arrested the fan in Ranchi and informed his father about the likelihood of his son being sent to jail.

South Africa Draws Level In Raipur Despite Virat Kohli’s 53rd ODI Century

After scoring 102 off 93 balls and sharing a 195-run partnership with Ruturaj Gaikwad (105), Virat Kohli laid the groundwork for a strong total for India. Later, KL Rahul contributed an unbeaten 66 off 43 balls, guiding Team India to 358/5 in their allotted 50 overs.

For South Africa, despite Quinton de Kock falling for 8 in the first 10 overs, Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma forged a 101-run partnership, setting a solid base for the challenging chase. Following Markram’s dismissal for 110 to Harshit Rana, Matthew Breetzke and Dewald Brevis accelerated with quick half-centuries.

Their 92-run stand, boosted by Brevis’ 54 off 34 balls, including three sixes, eased the chase significantly for the Proteas. Even after Breetzke (68) and Marco Jansen (2) fell in successive overs, Corbin Bosch remained calm and guided the visitors to victory with an unbeaten 29.

This chase also marks the joint-highest successful run-chase against India in ODIs. The third and final ODI is scheduled for Saturday, December 6, in Vishakhapatnam.
