Australia have boosted their squad for the upcoming third Test of The Ashes 2025-26 by bringing back captain Pat Cummins. The fast-bowler, who has been unavailable since the West Indies tour in July due to a lower-back injury, has been named in a 15-member lineup for the highly anticipated Adelaide fixture.

The move signals his strong progress in recovery and readiness to lead again. Head coach Andrew McDonald expressed confidence in the skipper’s fitness, saying Cummins will be “as best prepared as can be” once he takes the field. Australia currently lead the five-match series 2-0 after a commanding eight-wicket win in Brisbane.

Unchanged Core with Key Players Retained

Apart from Cummins’ inclusion, selectors have opted not to alter the squad that delivered success in the previous Test in Brisbane. The stability highlights belief in the current group’s balance and performance. Usman Khawaja, who missed the second Test because of a back issue, remains in the squad and is expected to reinforce the top order if fully fit.

Spinner Nathan Lyon is also poised for a return after Australia went with an all-pace attack in the day-night match at the Gabba. His presence may be crucial on Adelaide’s surface, known to evolve and support tweakers as the game progresses. With a strong blend of youth and experience, Australia appear set on maintaining pressure and carrying their winning momentum forward.

Full Squad for the 3rd Ashes Test

The full list for the Adelaide clash includes both regulars and a few backup options to ensure depth across positions. Joining Cummins are Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Brendan Doggett, Cameron Green, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Michael Neser, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster, and the returning Khawaja and Lyon.

The selectors’ faith in nearly the same roster shows confidence that the group can secure the Ashes early with another victory. With England desperately needing a win to stay alive in the series, the third Test promises to intensify the historic rivalry even further, as Australia look to keep their dominance intact with Cummins back at the helm.
