NPL 2025: Sudurpaschim Royals Won By 77 Runs Against Biratnagar Kings
Sudurpaschim Royals

Sudurpaschim Royals exhibited a powerful performance in Qualifier 1 of NPL Season 2 that assured their place in the final with a victory that left no doubts. The Royals’ batting featured excellent collective strength and fiery enthusiasm, and they accumulated runs gradually to finally set a tough target of 155 runs for the opponents over 20 overs.

This victory not only symbolizes the team’s strength but also marks the second time the team made it to the finals in this tournament, signaling their high-quality performances and consistent cricket throughout the event.

The Royals’ bowlers were, indeed, formidable, systematically breaking the Biratnagar Kings’ batting line that was already pretty paralyzed. The Kings got only 78 runs before they were all out in only 14.1 overs, thus falling massively, 77 runs short of the target.

Sudurpaschim Royals storm into NPL Season 2 final

Sudurpaschim Royals were the winners of Qualifier 1 with a full-fledged performance, understandably, marking their second final appearance by way of a 77-run win. The Royals batted first and constructed their innings step by step with the middle order, where the veteran player Binod Bhandari came to the fore as he played a steady innings of 63 off 52 balls with the help of 3 fours and 2 sixes.
Sudurpaschim reached 155 for 7 with the quick contributions of 20 runs each from Sheldon Jackson and Aarif Sheikh, who provided the much-needed momentum. Although the total seemed to be about 10-15 runs less, it was more than enough in the end. The Royals showed their wise plan against the tournament’s top wicket-taker, Sandeep Lamichhane, completely shutting him down through smart strike rotation and forcing him to finish with no wickets and figures of 0-16 from 4 overs.

Biratnagar Kings’ chase turned catastrophic from the opening delivery. Sam Heazlett was caught off the first ball, followed by Martin Guptill’s run-out and Naren Bhatta’s dismissal, leaving Kings reeling at 3 for 3 in 1.1 overs. Faf du Plessis’ resistance of 36 off 29 proved insufficient as the Royals’ bowling unit delivered a masterclass.

Scott Kuggeleijn, Harmeet Singh, and Abinash Bohara each claimed two wickets, dismantling Kings for just 78 in 14.1 overs. Bohara’s standout performance elevated him to the tournament’s leading wicket-taker with 16 wickets, surpassing Lamichhane.
