India U-19 batter Abhigyan Kundu produced a sensational performance in the U-19 Asia Cup, hammering an incredible 209 runs from just 125 deliveries against Malaysia in Dubai. The knock showcased his attacking prowess and fearless approach, as he reached the double-hundred milestone in only 121 balls. With this innings, Kundu went past Ambati Rayudu’s long-standing record of 177 to register the highest individual score by an Indian in U-19 ODIs.
He also eclipsed his teammate Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s best score in the tournament, stamping his authority as one of the standout performers of the competition. Although the match was against an associate nation and the record may not be officially recognised, the scale and impact of the innings drew widespread attention.
A Historic Knock Packed With Records
Kundu’s double century was not just about volume of runs but also about speed and dominance. He shattered the record for the fastest double hundred in U-19 ODI cricket, surpassing South Africa’s Jorich van Schalkwyk, who had reached the landmark in 145 balls.
Kundu achieved it 24 balls quicker, underlining his aggressive mindset. His innings was studded with 17 boundaries and nine towering sixes, reflecting a perfect blend of timing, power, and shot selection.
The 209-run knock now stands as the second-highest individual score in U-19 ODI history, only behind van Schalkwyk’s 215. Riding on Kundu’s brilliance, India U-19 posted a mammoth total of 408 for seven, completely outclassing the opposition and asserting their dominance in the tournament.
Rising Star From Mumbai’s Cricket System
Born on April 30, 2008, Abhigyan Kundu is a wicketkeeper-batter who represents Mumbai at the domestic level, coming through one of India’s most competitive cricketing structures. His latest performance has further strengthened his reputation as a promising young talent with the temperament to deliver on big occasions.
Kundu is also part of a strong batting unit that includes prodigious talents like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who earlier in the tournament smashed a remarkable 171 off just 95 balls against the UAE.
Together, these performances highlight the depth and quality of India’s U-19 setup. Kundu’s double century could prove to be a defining moment in his early career, putting him firmly on the radar as one of the brightest prospects in Indian cricket’s next generation.
