[WATCH] Shivam Dube’s Stunning One-handed Catch Breaks Opening Stand In Ind Vs Sa 5th T20i

Shivam Dube produced a moment of brilliance in the field by pulling off an extraordinary one-handed catch to dismiss Reeza Hendricks during the fifth T20I between India and South Africa at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday, December 19. The spectacular effort allowed Varun Chakaravarthy to claim the first wicket for India and ended a threatening 69-run opening partnership between Hendricks and Quinton de Kock. Hendricks’ innings came to an end at 13 runs from 12 deliveries, continuing his disappointing run in the series.

The dismissal occurred immediately after the powerplay. Varun Chakaravarthy bowled a short delivery aimed at the stumps, and Hendricks attempted an aggressive flick. However, the shot lacked timing and control, sending the ball looping inside the inner circle. Dube reacted instantly, kept his focus steady, and dived full length to pluck the ball with one hand at the final moment, drawing loud applause from the crowd and teammates alike.

Varun Chakaravarthy Strikes After South Africa’s Explosive Start

Varun Chakaravarthy’s wicket came at a crucial stage after South Africa had enjoyed a rapid beginning to their chase. Quinton de Kock looked in devastating touch, attacking the Indian bowlers from the outset and putting pressure on the fielding side. His aggressive intent ensured that the Proteas raced ahead during the early overs, forcing India to look for a breakthrough.

At the time of writing, South Africa were placed at 94 for one after 8.4 overs. De Kock was leading the charge with a commanding 61 off just 33 balls, while Dewald Brevis supported him with nine runs from seven deliveries. Despite the strong start, India’s timely wicket helped slow the momentum and brought some balance back into the contest.

India Post Massive Total As Middle Order Fires

Earlier in the match, India put up a formidable total of 231 for five after being asked to bat first. Openers Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma laid a solid foundation with brisk knocks of 37 off 22 balls and 34 off 21 balls, respectively. The highlight of the innings was a dominant fourth-wicket partnership between Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya. Tilak top-scored with a composed yet attacking 73 off 42 deliveries, striking ten fours and a six, while Hardik smashed 63 off just 25 balls, including five sixes and five boundaries.

Shivam Dube also chipped in with a late cameo, scoring 10 runs from three balls to push the total higher. In contrast, skipper Suryakumar Yadav once again failed to make a significant impact. For South Africa, Corbin Bosch stood out with two wickets, though he conceded 44 runs in his three overs.

India entered the match aiming to seal the series with a 3-1 lead, having already won the first and third T20Is convincingly. South Africa, led by Aiden Markram, faced a must-win situation, especially after the fourth T20I was abandoned due to fog.
