On Friday, December 19, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, George Linde gave South Africa a very important wicket in the fifth T20I against India by getting rid of the very aggressive Sanju Samson. Linde’s bowling ended the Indian batter’s inning, who had created a big problem for the bowlers. The fall of Samson marked the second wicket for India, which came at a very important moment when the host team had already scored 97 runs.

The innings was indeed explosive, as he managed to score 37 runs from just 22 balls at an impressive rate. He hit two huge sixes and four nicely positioned boundaries, which confirmed his attacking attitude at the center. The dismissal of Samson at the hands of Linde offered South Africa the vital second wicket, which was a must-win situation for the Proteas.

Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma put up a 63-run opening stand:

The dismissal took place in the 10th over of India’s innings when Linde bowled a well-flighted ball that went in from the middle and leg. Samson, trying to take full advantage of his good start, pulled back but was caught in Linde’s trickery.

The ball went straight through his outside edge and hit the middle stump, finishing his innings quite suddenly. Though he was aggressive, Samson could not tie his advantage, not being able to turn his dazzling start into a considerable match-winning contribution for India.

Samson’s arrival indicated his comeback to playing cricket after a long period, as he came into the playing XI as an injury replacement for Shubman Gill. The wicketkeeper-batter was playing his first match of the series after a six-game break that included three T20Is during India’s tour to Australia. Corbin Bosch had earlier given South Africa their first breakthrough by sending Abhishek Sharma back for 34 off 21 balls, breaking India’s 63-run opening partnership and paving the way for Linde’s vital wicket.
