Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer has said that the IPL 2020 would be one of the most important assignments for him. Iyer has been captaining the Delhi franchise for last two years. He was elected as Delhi (then known as Delhi Daredevils) captain after Gautam Gambhir decided to step down from captaincy due to a poor show.
As a captain, he has been quite successful for Delhi Capitals as under his captaincy Delhi qualified for the playoffs last year. Moreover, players in the Delhi camp have backed Shreyas to be the franchise’s long term captain.
IPL 2020 most important assignments for me: Shreyas Iyer
In a video posted on Delhi Capitals’s social media account, Shreyas said that he’s excited to be a part of this year’s IPL. Even though he hasn’t practised much in last 4-5 months due to COVID-19 pandemic, he’s looking to get going this year.
“Extremely excited to get back on the field and I am sure the rest of the players are feeling the same. Last few months we have been in quarantine and I have done shadow practice here and there but coming on the ground will be a completely different feeling,” Iyer said in a video posted on the official website of the IPL.
Shreyas Iyer further stated that this year’s IPL will be one of the most important assignments for him. Mainly due to two reasons, first up the IPL being played outside India and second, the players have joined in the camp with minimal practice in the last few months.
The onus will be on Shreyas to get the best out of his team as he gears up for this year’s IPL. Delhi are chasing their first title in 13 years after finishing third last year.
“This IPL will certainly be very different from the last season, as a captain this IPL would be one the most important assignments for me, the setting is very different and this tournament would be very different in every step, I think the key would be to take it one day at a time,” he added.
