[WATCH] Virat Kohli Marks 91-Ball Century With Subdued Celebration In IND vs NZ 3rd ODI

Team India’s batting maestro, Virat Kohli, kept his celebration low-key after scoring a century in the third ODI against New Zealand on Sunday, January 18, in Indore. He slammed his 54th ODI hundred in just 91 balls, fully aware of the challenging target of 338 that lay ahead. Kohli came to the crease in the fourth over after Zakary Foulkes dismissed Rohit Sharma for 11.

From the start, the right-hander played aggressively, reaching his fifty in 51 balls, while maintaining calm as wickets tumbled around him. He completed his century in the 40th over, anchoring the innings with poise. You can watch the video here:

The ICC’s top-ranked ODI batter fell short of a century by just seven runs in the series opener at Vadodara. In terms of international cricket, this marked the talisman’s 85th hundred, putting him only 16 shy of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

India Lose Back-To-Back Wickets Following Virat Kohli’s Century

Immediately after, New Zealand struck a major blow by dismissing Harshit Rana for 52, as Zakary Foulkes ended his threatening 99-run partnership with Virat Kohli. The right-arm medium pacer also sent back Mohammed Siraj on the very first ball, trapping him leg before and caught behind, reducing India to 277 for 8.

Virat Kohli had earlier shared a crucial 88-run stand with Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored 53 to register his maiden ODI fifty. Prior to this, India’s top order had crumbled, with Rohit Sharma (11), Shubman Gill (11), Shreyas Iyer (3), and KL Rahul (1) departing cheaply.

The Kohli-Reddy partnership helped India regain some stability. Eventually, Kristian Clarke dismissed Kohli for 124 off 108 balls, caught by Daryl Mitchell at long-off. Kuldeep Yadav was later run out by Glenn Phillips for 5, as New Zealand secured a 41-run win and clinched the series.
