India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was spotted bowling to Shreyas Iyer during a net session at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday, January 31, ahead of the fifth T20I against New Zealand.
What stood out was Bumrah delivering the ball without a run-up, despite retaining his usual bowling action. With India already clinching the series and the T20 World Cup approaching, the 32-year-old could be given a breather for the final match.
Bumrah has featured in just three games in the series so far, picking up four wickets, highlighted by his exceptional spell of 3 for 17 in four overs in the third T20I, which earned him the Player of the Match award.
Given his history of injuries, the team management may opt to rest the right-arm pacer for the final warm-up ahead of the 20-team global tournament. You can watch the video here:

Attention will also be on Shreyas Iyer and whether he gets an opportunity to feature. Drafted into the squad as a replacement for the injured Tilak Varma, Iyer is yet to make an appearance in the series, despite being spotted batting in the nets on several occasions.
Jasprit Bumrah Set To Play Key Role As Team India Eye T20 World Cup Glory
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah will once again shoulder massive expectations as India aim to make history by becoming the first side to defend a T20 World Cup title. With no host nation having lifted the trophy so far, Suryakumar Yadav and his teammates will be eager to break that trend.
Bumrah was the standout performer of the T20 World Cup 2024, earning the Player of the Tournament award after claiming 15 wickets in eight innings at a remarkable average of 8.26. He turned the final with a superb 18th over, conceding just two runs and taking a key wicket.
India edged out a tense decider by seven runs, finally ending their 11-year wait for an ICC title.
