In-form India batter Sarfaraz Khan has been admitted to hospital after contracting a viral fever, casting doubt over his availability for Mumbai’s 2025–26 Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Karnataka. The knockout encounter is set to get underway on Thursday, February 6, and the right-hander is expected to miss the game as he focuses on recovery.
Sarfaraz featured in both of Mumbai’s previous fixtures, including a standout performance against Hyderabad where he registered a superb double century. He then chipped in with 24 runs in the drawn match against Delhi to wrap up the group stage and was among the players seen wearing a mask amid pollution and AQI-related concerns.
The batter was also present in the Mumbai dressing room during Sachin Tendulkar’s visit for an interaction ahead of the quarter-final. As per the report from the Times of India, Sarfaraz’s participation in the crucial encounter remains uncertain.
“In-form batter Sarfaraz Khan has been hospitalized due to viral fever and is in doubt for the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal encounter against Karnataka, which starts from Friday at the MCA ground in BKC,” the report stated.

Sarfaraz Khan has been in outstanding form in Mumbai’s white-ball tournaments and has also enjoyed a solid Ranji Trophy outing in the 2025–26 domestic season. The batter has piled up 429 runs from seven matches at an impressive average of 53.62, strengthening his case for a return to the national side.
He currently stands as Mumbai’s second-highest run-getter in the competition, trailing only experienced campaigner Siddhesh Lad. However, Sarfaraz has faced a few setbacks, having recently been sidelined by a viral fever, while a quadriceps injury in the latter half of 2025 had earlier forced him to miss the Duleep Trophy.
