[WATCH]- Indian Batting Star Seen Sporting Sarfaraz Khan’s Jersey At Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26

In an unusual video, India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav was spotted wearing Mumbai teammate Sarfaraz Khan’s jersey during the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Thursday, January 8. The 35-year-old donned the No. 97 jersey while entering the team bus in Jaipur, with fans surrounding him. The clip quickly went viral on Instagram.

Interestingly, the event coincided with the day Sarfaraz Khan smashed the fastest fifty of the tournament, reaching the milestone in just 15 balls against Punjab. In contrast, Yadav’s struggles continued as he managed only 15 off 12 balls in a one-run defeat for Mumbai. In another appearance, the right-hander scored 24 from 18 deliveries against Himachal Pradesh.

According to BCCI guidelines, centrally contracted players, including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, were instructed to feature in a few Vijay Hazare Trophy matches. It remains uncertain whether Suryakumar will continue with the state side heading into the quarterfinals. The opening match of the five-game T20I series against New Zealand is scheduled to be played in Nagpur on January 21.

Yadav is not included in the ODI squad for the same tour. He last represented India in the 50-over format during the 2023 World Cup final against Australia. The selectors have since moved on, with the Mumbai batter accumulating 773 runs in 35 ODI innings at an average of 25.76, including four fifties.

India’s T20I Captain Endured A Forgettable 2025 With The Bat

Suryakumar Yadav endured a tough year in T20Is, failing to register a single half-century. The experienced batter scored 218 runs across 19 innings, averaging 13.62 with a strike rate of 123.16. He will be eager to turn things around in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand as India build towards the 2026 T20 World Cup.

Despite his struggles with the bat, Yadav remains unbeaten in bilateral series as India’s T20I captain and guided the team to the 2025 Asia Cup title. Under his leadership, India will aim to successfully defend the T20 World Cup, set to begin next month on home soil.
