Gautam Gambhir Returns India From Australia Due To Personal Emergency

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir visited Mumbai’s Shree Siddhivinayak Temple in Dadar on Thursday, February 5, to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026, which kicks off on Saturday. He was accompanied by batting coach Sitanshu Hargovindbhai Kotak.

India is set to begin its ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign against the USA in a Group stage match at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Saturday, February 7, with the game starting at 7 pm. Led by captain Suryakumar Yadav, Team India is considered one of the strongest title contenders this year.

A victory would make them the first team to win consecutive T20 World Cups. Recently, on January 31, India made history by setting a world record for the most sixes hit in a bilateral T20I series during the final T20I against New Zealand at Greenfield Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.

Here’s a video of Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir seeking blessings at Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak Temple:

Previously, Gambhir had visited the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati before the third T20I of the five-match series against New Zealand to offer prayers. On January 29, after the third T20I, he, along with Team India players, also visited the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha temple in Simhachalam, Visakhapatnam, ahead of the fourth T20I.

Washington Sundar Fitness Update

Ahead of the IND vs USA group stage clash, captain Suryakumar Yadav provided an update on all-rounder Washington Sundar, stating that the team has been in touch with him and he is nearing full fitness.

“We will be patient with Washington and don’t want to rush into replacements. And We are fully backing him. We spoke to him, and he is getting close,” Yadav said during his press conference.

Sundar’s warm-up absence raises fitness doubts, but the board is cautious. Ravi Bishnoi or Riyan Parag could replace him if ruled out.
