Team India batter Tilak Varma gave a humorous reaction to Ishan Kishan’s brilliant innings against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2026 clash on Sunday, February 15. Referring to the way the wicketkeeper-batter dominated the scoring, the left-hander jokingly remarked that he hardly got to face any deliveries during the powerplay.
After Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a duck in the opening over, Kishan counterattacked aggressively and got off the mark with a six. The Bihar-born batter brought up his half-century in just 27 balls in the seventh over. Although Saim Ayub eventually removed him for 77 off 40 deliveries, India had already raced to 88 in 8.4 overs by then.
Speaking to Parthiv Patel during a post-match show, Tilak said:
“Powerplay pe thoda better aa raha tha bat pe. Phir bhi, the way Ishan has batted, dusre end se mujhe bhi laga, strike hee nahin mila powerplay mein. Toh mujhe bhi laga maar raha hai toh accha hee hai team ke liye. Main bola, ‘Bhai tu lagaate reh’. Agar wicket gira dusre end pe, main sambhalta hoon. Rotate karunga.'”

India scored 175 in 20 overs, and Pakistan fell well short, managing only 114 runs in 108 balls.
“We Knew 160–170 Was A Good Total” – Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan, who was named Player of the Match, said he focused on playing to his strengths and added that he has put significant effort into improving his off-side shots. The 27-year-old stated during the post-match presentation:
“The wicket was not that easy. Sometimes, you just have to believe and focus on your strengths. Was just watching the ball, sticking to my strengths and making them run as much as possible.”
“I did work a lot on my off-side game, so then I can have them bowl where I want them to bowl. On a big ground, you get bigger gaps. Trying to hit the gaps, trying to take two runs. Knew we had to put up a total like 160-170, which would be a good total for us.”
