Confidence and togetherness are clearly visible in the Indian camp as the defending champions prepare for their Super 8 encounter against South Africa national cricket team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The squad looks relaxed yet determined as they approach the crucial stage of the T20 World Cup, reflecting the belief that success naturally creates a happy and united dressing room.
A Relaxed Yet Focused Environment
During the team’s first training session at the venue, Abhishek Sharma stepped forward to address his teammates. Despite struggling personally in the tournament, his positive approach lifted the mood of the camp. His expressions and confident tone brought smiles to head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav, underlining the strong camaraderie within the squad.
Before delivering his speech, Abhishek made his intention clear. “Just going to motivate the guys. Just going to keep the momentum, that’s it. I hope it helps,” said Abhishek before addressing the rest of his team. His focus was simple — maintain the winning rhythm and ensure that the collective energy remains high.
Words That Energised The Squad
Abhishek quickly gathered the players into a huddle and encouraged them to continue performing with intensity while sticking to the basics. He emphasised the importance of enjoying each other’s performances and carrying forward the vibrant energy displayed in previous matches. He concluded his message with the powerful Sikh chant, “Jo Bole So Nihaal, Sat Sri Akal.”
As he delivered his energetic message, head coach Gautam Gambhir watched closely. Gambhir could not help but laugh at certain moments of the animated pep talk, sharing a light exchange with captain Suryakumar Yadav. His reaction reflected approval and enjoyment, suggesting that he valued both the positive spirit and the unity developing within the squad.
“It’s a sign of a champion team. Let’s keep enjoying each other’s performances. That’s the best thing we are doing right now. The energy we are showing in all the games is fantastic. And we are here to win every game. Let’s keep enjoying, and one thing, ‘Jo bole so nihaal, sasriya kaal,” said Abhishek in the pep talk.
A Personal Struggle Amid Team Success
While the team thrives, Abhishek’s individual form remains a concern. The World No.1 T20I batter has been dismissed for ducks in all three matches he has played so far, surviving only eight deliveries in the competition. In the match against the Netherlands, he even tried altering his luck by wearing Mohammed Siraj’s jersey when he came out to bat. However, he was bowled in the opening over by spinner Aryan Dutt.
Earlier in the tournament, Abhishek had missed the clash against Namibia in New Delhi due to a stomach infection and was hospitalised a day before the game. As India gear up for the decisive Super 8 phase alongside South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe, the team’s positive spirit remains their biggest strength heading into Sunday’s challenge.
