Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant was forced to retire hurt without scoring, after facing three balls, when he was struck on the elbow by a sharp delivery from Josh Hazlewood during their Indian Premier League 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The left-hander looked in visible discomfort after the impact and eventually walked off the field following brief medical attention.
Pant arrived at the crease at No.3 after Aiden Markram was dismissed in the fourth over. He immediately faced Hazlewood, who had just returned to the attack, and found it difficult to settle. The Australian pacer consistently bowled hard back-of-a-length deliveries, restricting Pant’s space and timing.
Trying to counter the rising deliveries, Pant attempted an aggressive approach but struggled to connect. He swung hard at his first ball but missed completely. Repeating the attempt on the next delivery, he was beaten by the extra bounce as the ball struck him flush on the elbow.
The following ball also resulted in an uncomfortable miss, managing only a faint inside edge. The Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant was clearly affected by the blow to his elbow and required medical attention. The impact left a visible mark along with swelling, prompting him to leave the field.
Josh Hazlewood was seen offering words of comfort as Pant walked off. Watch the video here:
