India pacer Prince Yadav pulled off a brilliant running catch from the deep to dismiss Rashid Khan during the third ODI against Afghanistan at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, June 20, drawing loud cheers from the packed crowd. The youngster had also taken a similar running catch on debut in the previous match in Lucknow, sending Ibrahim Zadran back to the pavilion.

Afghanistan were under pressure in the final powerplay after Mohammad Nabi’s dismissal in the 38th over. With captain Hashmatullah Shahidi running out of support, Rashid looked to attack Harsh Dubey in the 41st over. He attempted a big slog against the left-arm spinner but only managed to mistime the shot high towards the off-side, offering a crucial breakthrough for India.

The shot had plenty of height but lacked distance, giving Prince Yadav a chance at deep cover. Sprinting in quickly from the boundary, he covered good ground and completed a superb diving catch just in time, finishing with a tumble to cap off a brilliant piece of fielding. Rashid Khan Set for Big Challenge as Afghanistan Post 218 in 3rd ODI

Rashid Khan’s full quota of 10 overs will be vital for Afghanistan after they managed only 218 runs despite choosing to bat first, leaving their bowlers with little room for error. Following the spinner’s dismissal, the visitors lost wickets quickly and were bowled out with more than five overs remaining.

Captain Hashmatullah Shahidi stood tall with an unbeaten 102 off 131 balls, becoming one of only two batters to score more than 30 runs in the innings. India national cricket team now need a straightforward chase to complete a 3-0 series whitewash and begin their ODI World Cup preparations on a strong note.
