Veteran Virat Kohli is likely to return from injury for India national cricket team in the upcoming ODI series against England cricket team. The Men in Blue are set to play a three-match ODI series starting on July 14.
Kohli suffered a hamstring injury towards the end of IPL 2026, which ruled him out of the ongoing ODI series against Afghanistan. However, recent reports indicate that the star batter has recovered quickly and is progressing well.
“Kohli has started his rehabilitation, and his injury is healing quickly. He is expected to report to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence for his fitness assesment and clearance soon. If his recovery goes as planned, Kohli is expected to make his comeback to the team in the upcoming England series,” a source said to the TOI.
The report also confirmed that Board of Control for Cricket in India will announce the Indian squad for the England ODIs later this week, with BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stating:
“The selection committee meeting to pick India’s ODI team for the England tour will be held in the next three to four days.”
Virat Kohli was last seen in action during the IPL 2026 final, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru crushed Gujarat Titans to clinch their second straight title. The right-hander starred with an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls, guiding RCB to a comfortable chase of 156 in just 18 overs.
India Remain Dominant Without Virat Kohli in Ongoing ODI Series
Virat Kohli’s absence has hardly affected India in the ongoing three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. The hosts have registered two comfortable victories in the opening matches, taking an unbeatable 2-0 lead with one game still to play.
With the No. 3 spot open due to Kohli’s absence, Shubman Gill moved into the position in the second ODI and smashed a brilliant 154 off 110 balls. In the series opener, Ishan Kishan batted at one-down and contributed a useful 34 from 22 deliveries.
India will now look to seal a clean sweep in the final ODI in Chennai tomorrow (June 20).
