Australia established their supremacy in women’s cricket with a commanding seven-wicket victory over hosts England to lift a record seventh ICC Women’s T20 World Cup title on Sunday. Chasing 151, the defending champions completed the task with ease in just 17.1 overs to add another trophy to their glittering cabinet.
The triumph also gave skipper Sophie Molineux her maiden ICC title as captain. Australia’s successful chase was built around a brilliant 100-run partnership between Phoebe Litchfield, who struck 48 off 35 balls, and Beth Mooney, who made a composed 64 from 49 deliveries.
The duo’s free-flowing stand made England’s target look far from challenging on a good batting surface. Reaching the three-figure partnership in just 69 balls, Litchfield and Mooney once again showcased Australia’s remarkable batting depth and class.
Litchfield dazzled with six fours and two sixes, combining fearless strokeplay with superb timing, while Mooney anchored the chase with her trademark composure and intelligent strike rotation, leaving England’s bowlers with few answers.
Australia crossed the 100-run mark halfway through the chase, effectively ending the contest. Litchfield wowed with a reverse-sweep six off Linsey Smith, while Mooney scored a 38-ball fifty before being dismissed for the first time in a Women’s T20 World Cup final.

Australia’s Bowlers Keep England to Modest 150/4
Earlier, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt fought hard with an unbeaten half-century, but Australia’s disciplined bowling effort restricted the hosts to a below-par 150/4 in their 20 overs. Australia’s bowlers justified the decision to field first, keeping England under pressure despite missing the injured Ellyse Perry.
England’s total was rescued by an unbroken 80-run fifth-wicket stand between Sciver-Brunt (58* off 53) and Freya Kemp (44* off 28). Without their partnership, the hosts were in danger of finishing with an even lower score. Sciver-Brunt struck five boundaries, while Kemp added four fours and a six.
Australia’s attack remained in control throughout, with Molineux (1/32), Georgia Wareham (0/9), Kim Garth and Annabel Sutherland delivering disciplined spells and conceding just two sixes across the innings.
