India captain Harmanpreet Kaur put on a brilliant display with the bat in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup match against Australia on Sunday, June 28, at the iconic Lord’s. With India needing a win to stay alive in the tournament, the skipper stepped up when it mattered most.

After winning the toss, India chose to bat first and posted a strong total of 170/4. Harmanpreet provided the late fireworks in the final over. She began by smashing Sophie Molineux straight down the ground for a six on the second ball. On the next delivery, she made room and launched another six over long-off, bringing up her half-century in style.

She wasn’t done yet. Harmanpreet hit another six on the fourth ball, sending it over extra cover. Phoebe Litchfield got a hand to the ball but couldn’t hold on, as it cleared the boundary for Harmanpreet’s third consecutive six.

Harmanpreet Kaur shines with crucial fifty in India’s must-win clash

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur led from the front when her team needed her the most in the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup. With a place in the semi-finals on the line, India had to beat Australia in this crucial match.

Handling the pressure brilliantly, Harmanpreet played a superb innings of 56 runs from just 27 balls at a strike rate of 207.41. Her knock included six fours and three sixes, helping India post a strong total to defend. She brought up her half-century in just 25 balls, making it the second-fastest fifty against Australia Women in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

It was also the fastest fifty by an Indian woman in the tournament. This was Harmanpreet’s fifth half-century in Women’s T20 World Cups, taking her level with Charlotte Edwards and Meg Lanning for the most 50-plus scores as captain in the tournament, moving ahead of Chamari Athapaththu.
