Rohit Sharma’s Parents Reach London Ahead of ENG vs IND 2026 3rd ODI Amid Retirement Speculation: Reports

India batter Rohit Sharma’s parents are reportedly set to attend the third ODI against England at Lord’s in London on Sunday. The former India captain has endured a disappointing series so far, managing scores of 11 and 26 in the opening two matches. According to The Indian Express, the series finale could potentially be Rohit’s final international appearance.

The 39-year-old has already retired from T20Is and Test cricket. Meanwhile, a CREX report claimed that his parents have already arrived in London amid growing speculation over his retirement. The report further stated that Rohit personally arranged for his parents to be present at Lord’s after reportedly being informed of the selectors’ plans regarding his international future.

The experienced opener looked in good touch during India’s three-match home ODI series against Afghanistan last month, scoring 48 and 79. However, he has failed to carry that form into the ongoing tour of England, struggling to make an impact with the bat.

Rohit Sharma Reportedly Set to Miss India’s ODI World Cup 2027 Plans

According to The Indian Express, the Indian selectors have informed Rohit Sharma that he does not feature in their plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. India head coach Gautam Gambhir has also reportedly been made aware of the decision.

The report added that the selection committee is focused on building for the future by giving younger players, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, an extended run in the ODI setup ahead of the marquee tournament. It stated:

“The Indian selection committee is learnt to have spoken to Sharma alongside coach Gautam Gambhir last week and have laid down their plans going forward. The selection committee wants to give a chance to youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has been waiting in the wings, and it’s clear that the committee is not looking at Sharma in the role for the 2027 50-over World Cup.”

Rohit Sharma has been one of India’s most accomplished white-ball batters over the years. The veteran opener is currently the country’s third-highest run-scorer in ODIs, amassing 11,757 runs in 279 innings. His record also includes 33 centuries, highlighted by a remarkable three double hundreds.
